What Is the Men’s Global Wellbeing Index (MGWI)? The Men’s Global Wellbeing Index (MGWI) is the world’s first dedicated international index focused exclusively on measuring and improving the wellbeing of men and boys across the globe. While numerous indices track national happiness, human development, or gender equality, few consider the unique and often overlooked challenges men face in today’s society.
What Is the Men’s Global Wellbeing Index (MGWI) for? The MGWI was developed to fill this gap. Our mission is to empower policy makers, nonprofits, researchers, and the public with data-driven insights to better understand and respond to the mental, emotional, and social pressures affecting men worldwide.
Why We Created the MGWI
Globally, men are:
- Overrepresented in suicide statistics
- More likely to face homelessness
- Disproportionately affected by workplace fatalities
- Less likely to receive mental health support
- Underrepresented in family court decisions
Despite these realities, mainstream global indices tend to exclude or downplay men’s issues. The MGWI provides a clear, evidence-based snapshot of how different countries are performing across 10 critical dimensions of male wellbeing.
About 10 Core Metrics:
- Suicide Rate
- Social Bias Against Men
- Child Custody & Family Law Fairness
- Male Homelessness
- Legal Bias (Gender Equality in Law)
- Workplace Fairness & Safety
- Freedom of Speech for Men
- Access to Mental Health Resources
- Violence Against Men
- Male Loneliness & Social Connection
Each country receives a score from 1 to 10 for each category, contributing to a total MGWI score out of 100. Higher scores indicate better outcomes and more supportive environments for men.
Who Is This For?
- Advocates and NGOs supporting men’s mental health and father’s rights
- Government agencies working on suicide prevention and social support
- Journalists and researchers covering gender and policy issues
- Everyday citizens who want to understand the true state of men’s wellbeing around the world
Whether you’re in Canada, the U.S., India, or anywhere else, the MGWI exists to shine a light on real challenges and help us move toward real solutions.
